My Firefox Extensions

08 Aug 2006
Addon TitleHere is my current list of must have Firefox extensions. Some are only there for evaulation and get replaced by better ones. For example, I have switched to BetterSearch from GooglePreview, because BetterSearch support del.icio.us.

Extensions:

  • BetterSearch 1.12
    • Displays thumbnails of website returned from searches with Google, Yahoo, MSN, Answer, and del.icio.us, as well as adds links to internet archives. I turn off most of the other features.
  • Bookmarks Synchronizer 3 1.0.2
    • Still not sold on it yet… I used it to keep my bookmarks the same between two computers. I use deli.icio.us for most this now.
  • ColorZilla 0.8.3.1
    • A web-dev tool, color picker for webpages. Simple.
  • ConQuery 1.6.4
    • Best extension you never heard of. This one I found by accident. You can perform a search by selecting the text and right click to search different search pages. No need to copy and paste. OK, big deal… but have a look at Mycroft take your time (there are over 8,000), I’ll wait. My favorites are wikipedia, IMDB, Google images, and Amazon.
  • del.icio.us 1.1
    • Installed, but I still use the bookmarklet.
  • Firefox Showcase 0.7.0
    • My trial replacement for Reveal. It has a feature to show your tab previews in the sidebar.
  • Forecastfox 0.9.3
    • Weather forecast display in the toolbar. For some reason I still have it installed.
  • Foxylicious 0.5
    • Get my del.icio.us tags and turns them into bookmarks.
  • Gmail Notifier 0.5.6.3
    • A utility… the name says it all.
  • Google Toolbar for Firefox 2.1.20060713M
    • I just use it for checking spelling.
  • InfoLister 0.9e
    • Used to make this list!
  • keyconfig 20050908.4
    • I need this because Reveal and Showcase conflict with my Mac’s built-in key commands. It allows you to edit them to new key combinations.
  • Reveal 1.0.6
    • Floats thumbnails of your current tabs. Since SessionSaver I tend to have at least 20 tabs open, so I tend to lose my place sometimes. Just hit the key command and scroll through the thumbnails.
  • ScrapBook 1.1
    • Keep those pages! They might just disappear one day.
  • Server Switcher 0.2b
    • Web-dev helper, also good for QA. Allows you to switch back and forth between development and production sites.
  • SessionSaver .2 0.2.1.030.4
    • Changed the way I bookmark, or don’t that is. It keeps the state of your browser when you shutdown or your broswer crashes. It can even save the contents of a text area that hasn’t been submitted. I use it to judge pages as “bookmark worthy”.
  • TinyUrl Creator 1.0.1
    • Just installed last week, might be handy sending those long urls from maps or online stores via email, that get broken when sent.
  • User Agent Switcher 0.6.8
    • Use to trick stupid site who insist that I use Windows or IE just to visit their site.
  • Web Developer 1.0.2
    • The ultimate web-dev tool. A must for every web developer. Tons of options. Great for debugging CSS layouts. It now has a ruler, so I got rid if MeasureIt.
