PocketMod Movie Listings

26 Jul 2007

moviemod.jpgFairly Useful, print one out before you go out for the evening. When you and your date are at dinner you can check the times to see if you have time for desert.

You would not believe how difficult is is to find a xml or rss feed for movie showtimes. I mean really, you’d think that would be the first thing in most RSS reader/notifiers. Well I found one using dapper, it was ok, but I had some problems with the feed. So I rolled my own. The new interface is smarter, although I had problems with it hanging, I thought it was my browser, but now I think it was the site. It seems to work much smoother now. For this to work go to movietickets.com and find the 4 or 5 digit code for your movie theater. If you want to see if the dapper works you can test it here. The mod uses the xml feed to load the content.

If you have any problems check to see it works at dapper.net first. Scaping is not an exact science.

Google Calendar Agenda PocketMod

Google Calendar Agenda PocketModYALP – Yet Another List PocketMod

When I first started this mod I hit a roadblock, I was using the basic feed, which is worthless [ This has been updated by google ]. Then I found out you can change the link from “basic” to “full”. That gave me some better options, but there are hidden query parameters! I found Google’s calendar api reference page, which gave me the answers I needed.How

to use this PocketMod:

Start by grabbing the url for the xml of the calendar you want to use. Calendar Support

Here are the parameters you need to use:

orderby=starttime
sortorder=ascending
futureevents=true
max-results=10

http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/uo64jt8569g%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic?orderby=starttime&sortorder=ascending&futureevents=true&singleevents=true&max-results=10

(you will need to change the link to your feed url)

With the above parameters this works great. Put this mod next to the Monthly Calendar mod and it works pretty good.

Remember The Milk – PocketMod

24 Apr 2007

rtm.gifFor the sake of completeness, I have created a PocketMod for Remember the Milk. RTM has a some very nice features and the ATOM feed is pretty complete. I had some problems with authentication, I also tried to use https, no luck. So your lists will have to be public.

RTM wishlist: Please make SmartLists publishable. I wanted to tag tasks as “public” and then create a SmartList for that tag to feed to my PocketMod. Read the rest of this entry »

Stikkit Todo Pocketmod

22 Apr 2007

Stikkit imageI had played around with Stikkit when I first read about it, but I didn’t really use it until I read Merlin Mann’s post about using it with Quicksilver.

I created a PocketMod for Todo stikkits.

Download the swf file here

Get you api key here: http://www.stikkit.com/api

Just use http://www.stikkit.com/todos.atom?api_key=xxxxx as the source in your xml file (substituting you actual api key for the xxxxx’s)

The feeds are not too useful, the best I could do is make a list of the titles. I think Tada Lists are better suited for pocketmod lists. I filter my stikkit list to show only done items. There is no status available via the feed. Also your stikkits would have to one todo per stikkit. The peeps are just as bad, you can get a feed for them but the data is free form so phone numbers are not enclosed in any meaningful tag enclosure.

Daily Cartoon PocketMod

29 Nov 2006

cartoon bankHere is a PocketMod mod that grabs the daily cartoon from www.cartoonbank.com, which luckily is a jpeg. The PocketMod app does not allow for importing gifs (sorry, no Dilbert).

Cartoonbank has a strange way of providing the artwork, they name each one as the date, and not the “cartoon_of_the_day.jpg”. I do not know which timezone they are in and when the generate the file. Just wait a couple hours after midnight and you should be fine.

Grab the mod here.

Daily Horoscopes

16 Nov 2006

Horoscope pocketmodAdd one part RSS feed from tarot.com, and a pinch of zodialogical clip-art. And presto! A Horoscope mod. Just edit the description in the xml for your sign and it will grab the correct feed.

I do not believe in astrology, I just can’t get over the fact that other people born the same week that I was are going to get the same advice, like… “Get good news from a friend” or “Now is a good time to ask for a raise”. A friend of mine told the reason that I did not believe in it was because I was a virgo. What? Oh, nevermind.
I have had a sudden burst of module development recently. I won’t have a new ones in while, too busy with the holidays.
