Stikkit Todo Pocketmod

22 Apr 2007

Stikkit imageI had played around with Stikkit when I first read about it, but I didn’t really use it until I read Merlin Mann’s post about using it with Quicksilver.

I created a PocketMod for Todo stikkits.

Download the swf file here

Get you api key here:

Just use as the source in your xml file (substituting you actual api key for the xxxxx’s)

The feeds are not too useful, the best I could do is make a list of the titles. I think Tada Lists are better suited for pocketmod lists. I filter my stikkit list to show only done items. There is no status available via the feed. Also your stikkits would have to one todo per stikkit. The peeps are just as bad, you can get a feed for them but the data is free form so phone numbers are not enclosed in any meaningful tag enclosure.

Snacksby is a really neat recipe site

19 Dec 2006

snacksbySnacksby is a different, easier kind of recipe site. You tell us what you’ve got in your fridge, in your pantry, or just what you’re looking to find in a recipe, even how much of each ingredient and wham!, we let you know what your options are.

I had a hypercard stack that did this with drinks… I always wanted one the worked with food.

AmbientClock at a glance

01 Dec 2006

ambientclockI was just talking to a co-worker yesterday about “glance” applications. We were talking about the future of information design and I mentioned I was playing around with Quartz and trying to build a glance screensaver. I was playing around with the idea of a aquarium scene with the number of blue fish for hours and the number of air bubbles in minutes with sea grasses for the days of the month and so on. Ambient has already created a number of cool “information pr0n” display gadgets.

The newest one grabs your google calendar/schedule and maps to the clock face meetings encircle the time period while dots lead up to the event estimating the travel time based on google maps. Add a bit of color for warnings and you have a cool glance information device.

About this big…

Web 2.0 madness! Close the patent office, we are running out of ideas. Here is a website that lets you compare the sizes of different objects. Trendy 2.0 look and feel with some AJAX thrown in via Ruby on Rails.

Sizeasy Screenshot

Can you make the object I tried to compare?
I’ll give you a hint, the ratio is 9 X 3 X 1, no the answer isn’t 27.

One Page Aggregators

19 Sep 2006

popurlsHave you seen popurls yet? Go check it out. It collects all the feeds in one place, kinda like Google News, but for other sites. I really liked when I first saw it. It has started to spawn other sites that have found their niche. I am partial to the design aggregators.

zc_logo.gifHaven’t had time to “play” with this yet. But Zoho Creator looks amazing. I have looked at the Zoho Virtual Office app, and it looked good, but I am already married to google (spreadsheets and writely).

Now, Zoho Creator, looks different. It looks like a great tool for inputing data and displaying data, which is the basis of all web apps. I am looking forward to trying it out!

Its a good start, hopefully it will continue to be updated. I hope they add a way to import recipes from other formats.

Dapper allows you to easily build an API for any website.

    28 Aug 2006

Dapper logoDapper’s mission is to allow you to use any web based content in any way you can imagine. And by use, we mean going beyond just reading or viewing a webpage. You may want to create an RSS feed or a Google Gadget for a site, take a site’s content and put it on a map, receive an email alert when your site’s Alexa’s ranking goes below 5000, or create a mashup of your favorite band’s tour dates and a camping locations reservation website to organize your musical camping vacation. Whatever you want to do, however you want to mold the web, Dapper can help you do it.
